About Mr. Maddox

Mr. Maddox was born in Pennsylvania, but was raised from early childhood in West Virginia and has been a resident almost his entire life. In high school he was a star athlete with championship titles in tennis, table tennis, golf, and basketball. He was an excellent student and a student government leader. In college Mr. Maddox was a state champion tennis player three years straight at Morris Harvey College, now the University of Charleston and a dean's list student most of the time. Mr. Maddox played tennis all over West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia while in college. He would have gone into medicine or dentistry or perhaps have gotten a PhD in Chemistry, but his world fell apart due to alcohol and drug usage. He is recovered, retired, and disabled and now spends his time speaking to people about his experience and drug and alcohol education. Mr. Maddox also does his own research and study and has worked with health care professionals and other recovering people. In July of 2008, Mr. Maddox was awarded the Certificate of Commendation from the Secretary of State of West Virginia.

Credentials and Qualifications

Mr. Maddox is well known throughout this area. He speaks to thousands of young people every year.
Mr. Maddox is a drug and alcohol educator and Christian theologian who speaks in secondary schools, institutions of higher learning, churches, and organizations of like venue about drug and alcohol abuse and addiction and delivers inspirational messages in churches and other like institutions.
Mr. Maddox is an award-winning social worker with a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from Morris Harvey College, now the University of Charleston, and studied advanced chemistry and biology at West Virginia University and joined the chemistry fellowship while at WVU. He also did other graduate work at the College of Graduate Studies.
Mr. Maddox spent one year at Durham Technical Institute, played number one tennis, and finished his studies in dental laboratory technology. He was moved up to second year at Durham Tech after one semester. He played tennis all over North Carolina, and also warmed up with the Duke University Tennis Team. While he was in Durham he began studying the ministry on the Duke University campus with divinity students, ministers, and other professors. He led worship at the Duke Chapel on one occasion, a real honor. He joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes while at Duke.
Mr. Maddox went to Carver Career Center outside of Charleston while working full time and qualified and worked as a pharmacy technician, and draftsman of architecture and structural steel detailing.
Mr. Maddox was featured in a front page article in the Today section of the Charleston Gazette that talked about his efforts with local youth groups on the dangers of alcohol and drugs. He also received a “Smile” for lecturing youth groups about the dangers of addiction.
